The format is simple: one thought, one example, one rule.

In short

A fully booked team feels stable, but most clients come for a single project.

If sales stop during peak months, revenue moves in waves and cash flow becomes unpredictable.

The rule: marketing and business development run constantly, even in a one-person company.

Why do companies stop selling when they have plenty of orders?

A company lands enough orders to fill its production, its team or its service capacity. Euphoria sets in, and all attention goes into operations: deliver, hand over, hit the deadlines.

It is easy to forget one simple thing. Most of those clients came for one project. Nobody knows whether they will order again, or when. Meanwhile new client acquisition is on hold, because there is “no time” for it.

What does a business that sells in bursts look like?

When sales only switch on once work runs out, utilisation moves in waves: peak, trough, peak again. Empty months appear between projects, and every time the search for clients starts almost from zero. In a one-person company that can be a few hours a week; in a larger team, a dedicated role or a named owner.
</details><details>
Is marketing still needed if we already have repeat clients?

Yes. Repeat clients order at intervals, following their budget cycles. They give you a base, but they do not guarantee even utilisation every month. Marketing and new contacts fill the gaps between their orders.
</details><details>
How far ahead should a B2B sales pipeline be planned?

At least as far as your typical sales cycle, and ideally several months. If it takes three months from first contact to a signed contract, deals for next quarter need to start today.
</details>

Last updated: 17 October 2026

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://thenech.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/dima-nechyporenko-portrait-960.webp" alt="Dima V.
